Robot Mascot are in the club
7th June 2018
ESTABLISHING SHOT
A busy street in Hoxton, early morning. A young man wearing a flat cap wanders slowly up to a suited, burly man standing in front of a black door. Flat cap has neck tattoos, a fade haircut and long, plaited beard. Nordic techno clicks and pings from headphones hung around his neck.
CUT TO
Flat Cap’s hands, shaking and clammy. He plunges them into his pockets and pulls out his iPhone X. His Snapchat reads: ‘Friday Club, 22 Finsbury Square, that’s the rumour.’
FLAT CAP
Um, hi, alright? I’m here for Friday Club, yeh.
BURLY MAN
(exhales deeply)
I very much doubt it.
FLAT CAP
Na, true story, I got an invite from Hegarty after he saw my blog –
‘Moomins make great marketeers’. He proper loved it.
BURLY MAN
(stares hard)
Sir John hasn’t left a list today.
FLAT CAP
Can’t be right? We go way back.
BURLY MAN
I’m sure you don’t.
FLAT CAP
Whoa, I’m not some rando earjacker. He must’ve forgot. OK, OK, how about this, get me in and I’ll sort you VIP for XOYO, and get you Uber Eats for a month. That’s as many Poke bowls as you want, fella.
BURLY MAN
Listen carefully, if Friday Club is held here, and I’m not confirming or denying anything, you can’t bribe your way in, you can’t beg your way in, you can’t hustle your way in. It’s invite-only and you are nowhere near the guest list.
FLAT CAP
(turns away, starts walking but pulls his phone out, a voice says ‘Yeh’)
Jus’ like I said, found out where Friday Club is – and it’s dripping talent.
ROBOT MASCOT ARE IN THE CLUB
There’s a good reason why people clamber to get into the Friday Club. It’s one of the most dynamic initiatives out there. It’s where creative dazzlers, including the likes of Diageo, Red Bull and We Are Social, lend their knowledge and experience to promising start-ups in need of expert advice. Robot Mascot founders Nick and James joined the mentor line up last year and got stuck right in.
Each session helps four emerging players in the tech start up scene to avoid the pitfalls, learn winning strategies and get their businesses fine-tuned fast. Nick and James mentored entrepreneurs from The Rattle and Qriously, both companies who faced interesting challenges but have the potential to make it big.
“There’s always a ridiculous amount of talent in that room,” says Nick. “The pace is intense for the start-ups, so they need to be on the ball. If they use the Friday Club experience wisely, they can skip ahead of their competition and make invaluable contacts. It’s a great collaborative atmosphere in the room, and both James and I were inspired by spending quality time with the other mentors too.”
