BRAND DEVELOPMENT

“The brand development perfectly repositioned my brand, which meant a new breed of Hollywood film directors took notice.”

Adrian Gwillym, Founder, Academy Costumes

Established over 30 years ago, Academy Costumes provides bespoke costumes for the film and entertainment industry. Their credits include Alien, Batman, Beyonce, The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, Lady Ga Ga, Les Miserables, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and the X Factor.

The Need

Academy founder, Adrian Gwillym, had a great relationship with his existing clients, however, he wasn’t getting attention from a new breed of film directors. On top of this, he needed to promote his new bespoke tailoring service as well as his range of rental costumes for film, theatre and TV.

He felt his current brand identity didn’t express his heritage or his values, and that their website was holding the business back – it was near impossible for staff to update and did not reflect their current business model.

How We Helped

Working closely with Adrian and his team at Academy Costumes, we carried out a discovery workshop and design audit. This highlighted key areas that needed our attention and helped us develop a new brand identity to express Academy’s impressive heritage and fine bespoke service.

In order to commemorate Academy’s history as a bespoke maker for film, music, TV and theatre, this new brand identity included a range of brand photography that captured some of the more famous costumes and props in their collection. In addition, Academy’s rental range was highlighted through a series of fashion inspired photoshoots.

Alongside this new brand identity, we designed a responsive website which showcased their bespoke film, theatre and TV productions. The website was easy for staff to update and featured our carefully art-directed costume and prop photography which highlighted their awe inspiring range of rental costumes.

The Result

“The brand development and website perfectly positioned my brand towards a new breed of Hollywood film and TV directors. My rentals flew out the door and were used in hit shows such as The Crown, and I was also able to expand the bespoke tailoring side of my business.”
